Laura is currently Director of Education Policy at Women Thrive Worldwide and is also an Advisor to the UN Secretary General’s Global Education First Initiative’s Youth Advocacy Group (YAG). The YAG’s 18 youth members work to improve education access and quality and to promote global citizenship.
She has over 20 years of experience in international development, with a particular focus on capacity building, advocacy gender integration, and representation to bilateral and multilateral donors. As an expert in policy/advocacy and USAID relations, Laura guided staff at WWF, CARE and ChildFund field offices on engagement with USAID, State Department, MCC, World Bank and the UN.
In early 2014, Laura was a reviewer of applications for President Obama’s Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, and she is also an Official Mentor of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, providing career and readjustment advice.
Previously, as Director of ChildFund’s Washington, DC Office, Laura visited a variety of youth programs in Africa, Asia and Latin America. She has served as Commissioner for the Montgomery Country Commission for Women, in Maryland and on the Executive Committee of InterAction’s Board of Directors. As a Peace Corps volunteer in Togo, Laura introduced coffee/cocoa marketing techniques to farmers, greatly increasing their capacity and profits.
Laura’s career has taken her to 25 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America in a range of capacity building and bilateral donor relations functions.
